Best Dogs for Allergy Sufferers

Many people desire to have a dog as a pet, but pass up the chance to enjoy such an opportunity because of pet allergies.

In order to remedy this situation, pet lovers can choose to select dogs that don’t shed. Less shedding means less dander. Pet dander is the primary culprit triggering allergy symptoms. Some of the dogs that don’t shed are among breeds that also lack any fur. Some of the best breeds of dogs for people with pet allergies include:

Bichon Frise – The cottony looking, puffy coat of the bichon frise can be deceptive. They do not shed, and they are not hard to train. Dander and dust can be eliminated, if their curly locks are regularly brushed. The bichon frise is a small, light-hearted, and playful dog. Indoor exercise is usually enough, making them ideal for apartments. They have a long lifespan of 15 years or more.

Schnauzer – For those owners who shine at the center of attention, the schnauzer is a great shed-less dog. These dogs become so affectionate toward their owners, they expect to be at their owner’s side at all times. To balance the schnauzer’s strong-willed, frisky, and protective disposition, they need to be handled firmly. They range in sizes average, gigantic, and miniature.

Labradoodle – The Labradoodle is one of the most popular current breeds for those with allergies, or who wish to have a dog that doesn’t not shed. They are a cross between a retriever and poodle and have curly, soft hair. They are very friend, “happy” dogs which  makes them great for families.

Portuguese Water Dog – These dogs look similar to Labradoodles and Goldendoodles. They are obedient, docile, and smart. This breed has become more popular in recent years due to the Obama’s “famous” White House dogs.

Poodle – Poodles come in toy, miniature, and standard sizes. They are very smart, do not shed, but do require consistent grooming. Because of their intelligence, they are easy to train and are good for families and children.

Italian Greyhound – The Italian Greyhound is smaller than a traditional greyhound. This breed sheds very little. They do tend to have energy so  need regular exercise, and are very playful and loyal. They can be sensitive to cold weather.

Wheaten Terrier – This breed is a good sized dog that tends to be playful and affectionate. They don’t normally shed in spring and fall, but can require some hair combing to minimize allergens.

Samoyed  – This breed does shed, but their skin has no dander, which makes them a possible choice for families dealing with pet allergies. This breed tends to be laid back, friendly and good with children.

Maltese – Maltese dogs are sweet and loyal. They learn tricks well and do not shed. They are also known to be good with children due to their mild manner.
